Results of the 2010 Industrial Food Fight

Once again, a group of businesses in the Truro and Debert Air Industrial Parks joined together to fight hunger in the Industrial Food Fight. From April 26 to May 7, fourteen business rallied together to support a food drive for FEED NOVA SCOTIA. Businesses such as Home Hardware, TDL-Tim Hortons, Kohler, A-1 Tires and Red Light Equipment were on board again this year, to give back to our those in need in our province. Their dedication encouraged businesses such as: ALPA Equipment, Barnhill’s Superette, SOS 4 Companies and Mount Pleasant Nursery School participate in the 2nd Annual Industrial Food Fight.

The Debert Air Industrial Park continues to hold the title of Industrial Food Fight winner having contributed 1,029 lbs of food collectively in this year’s challenge. Newcomers, Onyx & Marble with their staff of four, reigned supreme with a donation of 202 lbs, titling them as the 2010 Food Fight Champions. Honourable mention was awarded to Masstown Market for the largest overall contribution, for donating over 1300 lbs of food total over the past two years.

"The Industrial Food Fight provides an opportunity for us all to give back to people in our own communities. The response from FEED NOVA SCOTIA is always one of immense appreciation," said Lisa Yorke, CEO of D’Maya Consulting & Management Inc, event coordinators.

Monetary donations from participating companies also have a resounding impact for FEED NOVA SCOTIA. According to FEED NOVA SCOTIA, cash donations collected during the Food Fight will be used to provide $4,900 of donated food throughout our province.

The Industrial Food Fight was inspired by a front page article that ran in the Truro Daily News on March 23, 2009. Economic conditions have increased the dependency on our local food bank enormously. By participating in the Industrial Food Fight, businesses in the Debert Air and Truro Industrial Parks will generate new resources for FEED NOVA SCOTIA, build corporate team spirit and have fun while doing it!
